About Jacob

My name is Jacob Phibbs, I am a warm and engaging individual who has recently graduated from the University of Cambridge with a high 2.i (68%) in History and Politics. Whilst there, amongst other things, I spoke at the Cambridge Union, worked with a local charity that mentored disadvantaged schoolchildren and was President of Homerton College Christian Union. I am currently pursuing a MA in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic. Prior to attending university I was mentored by an ex-ambassador and worked with multiple NGOs overseas. I achieved four A*s at A-level in History, Sociology and Politics as well as an EPQ. I also achieved all 8s and 9s (A*s) at GCSE.

I specialise in Middle Eastern and British imperial history, Medieval European history and the history of political thought until the 18th century (Western canon from Aristotle to Hobbes). However I am confident in most subject areas from later Medieval Europe onwards. I also wrote a dissertation and am thus able to advise and critique on all stages from research to production. I can teach most political science though I specialised in contemporary European, American and Middle Eastern comparative politics and political philosophy (see above). In regards to Sociology I can teach all areas of the A-level course though I took the family, globalisation and education topics.

I am also happy to provide advice for Oxbridge and wider university applications. I can give mock interviews and provide essay and personal statement feedback. If you require any more information, feel free to drop me a message.

About the lesson

A tailored approach that follows the syllabus of the relevant qualification -whether degree, a-level, or GCSE- whilst also catering to the specific needs of the student. This could be anything from revising and teaching content to practising and improving exam technique. For prospective Oxbridge and university applicants I am able to provide the necessary preparation from mock interviews to essay and personal statement feedback. The lessons will be roughly one hour either in person or online and can be for any age for the relevant subjects.
