About Rachel
I have recently graduated from University of Cambridge with a Masters in American Literature. Before this, I received a first class BA in American and Canadian Studies from the University of Birmingham. This inter-disciplinary degree included study of literature, history and politics, as well as a year abroad at Endicott College in Massachusetts.
I have experience as a student mentor for first year English Literature students and have worked in an editorial capacity at two university magazines: Varsity and Cambridge Review of Books.

Coming from an inter-disciplinary academic background I am flexible in tailoring lessons to the needs of the individual and am open to whichever source may be being studied by the student.
Typically I begin with an in-depth close reading of a particular passage to understand the authors' literary style and techniques. This then highlights wider themes and concerns which can be applied to the rest of the piece. Finally, I consider the historical context to assess the larger significance of the writing.
Additionally, I am open to tutor academic writing style in an editorial capacity. This may include proofreading the work with the student, thinking about the structure of an essay's argument or general command of English.

Deadly! I feel a lot better about the direction of my paper.
