About Farbod

I am a UBC Science graduate (B.Sc. in Computer Science and Microbiology & Immunology) with over five years of experience teaching students across a range of subjects, including academic writing. As a graduate of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program (English A HL 7), I understand the importance of clear, structured, and persuasive writing. I help students develop strong thesis statements, organize their ideas logically, and express their arguments effectively, whether they’re writing literary analyses, research papers, or persuasive essays. My approach not only improves writing skills and grades but also builds students’ confidence in their ability to communicate clearly and think critically. I focus on guiding students through each stage of the writing process, from brainstorming to final edits, while helping them develop the skills to become independent, confident writers.

About the lesson

As someone who has experienced the Canadian education system firsthand, I understand the challenges students face in mastering English, whether it’s essay writing, reading comprehension, or building strong communication skills. Many students are not taught how to approach English as a skill that can be developed, nor how to structure their thoughts clearly and persuasively. My teaching approach focuses on helping students build a strong foundation in writing and critical thinking, so they not only improve their grades but also feel confident expressing themselves in both academic and everyday contexts.

A typical lesson begins with a review of previous work, clarification of any areas of confusion, and feedback on assignments. We then move into focused instruction on reading or writing skills tailored to the student’s needs, and conclude with practice work designed to build fluency and reinforce learning.

What sets me apart is my commitment to each student’s long-term development—not just in English, but in how they approach learning overall. I work with students to improve their writing process, develop stronger study habits, and become more independent, capable learners. My tutoring is best suited for students in Grades 6 through first-year university.
