About Mallory
Hi there! I am currently a third year Spanish and Italian student at the University of Bristol, and currently find myself in the middle of a year abroad I wasn't quite expecting! Having done both GCSEs and A-Levels, I completely understand the stress it can cause and sometimes just a little personal attention can go a long way. On the flipside, also wanting to pick up a new language myself, I understand how a more mature environment needs to be adopted to encourage progress. I studied Spanish, English Literature and History at A-Level, which has encouraged a strong connection with Humanities subjects in general, and am very aware of the challenges these types of combinations can cause. I have also spent five months living in Spain, and so have a competent knowledge of the language and the culture.
I have a wide range of experience working with children and young people, and during my time in Spain, took on an English class whilst I was there, which very much opened my eyes to the challenges that accompany teaching languages, but nonetheless was a very enjoyable experience. I also spent two years teaching piano, and therefore have developed a great amount of patience, and the understanding of how to adapt teaching methods to get the most out of the student. Alongside this, I spent four years volunteering to teach dance to young people from the age of five up to 18, which has given me experience of working with different age groups and education levels.

As for my teaching style, I can be pretty flexible. I'm no battleaxe, but I am determined and won't give up until we have found an engaging way to understand topics. Depending on the needs of the student, I can offer speaking practice, grammar reinforcement, vocabulary and comprehension activities, or a combination, as well as support with cultural topics, accent improvement and listening help. A standard session would involve focusing on a particular grammar topic, and then activities that promote vocabulary expansion, before looking at speaking activities that encourage active engagement with the language, however this can be adapted to the student's requirements.
