The techniques I use the most are meant to lower the affective filter since I work with international students that most of the time have never had contact with English speakers, they can feel easily intimidated. So, for me making students feel comfortable and safe within the classroom is very important. I think once students feel safe they allow themselves to make mistakes and start practising their language skills. I try to make my classes as dynamic as possible I like to introduce a lot of authentic materials that help students get more familiarized with their new environment. The approach that relates the most to the way I teach is the communicative approach. This method's main goal is to connect people through language, it focusses on being successful at communicating in the target language.
