About Benedetta

I am a friendly and nerdish Italian, who loves learning and randomly quote historical anecdotes. I am in love with my language and my culture, and I am very knowledgeable about my pastas. I graduated in French, have lived in France for years, and use French for my research on a daily basis - I know your struggle, my fellow learners!
I am a tutor in the French and in the History departments of the University of Edinburgh and I worked with the institute of advanced learning at the university as Writing Advisor for postgraduate students. I did some on and off private tutoring over the years and, back in Italy, I used to volunteer as tutor for kids with learning disabilities.

About the lesson

The classes will revolve around identifying the weaknesses and strengths of your writing. The aim is to rectify the former while enforcing the latter!
I use a facilitation method. This means that I will not feed the answers to you, but I will give you the instruments to find them yourself. A typical class would last one hour and would involve: reading out loud a piece of your own writing; personal reflection on what works and what does not work in the piece; guided discussion; way forward: based on our discussion, identification of sections to modify at home.
I am a PhD student and university tutor (2 years experience), and I worked for two years as Postgraduate dissertation writing advisor. I not only have to produce high quality academic writing, but a fundamental part of my role is to mark and provide constructive feedback on other people's academic writing.
My classes are targeted to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as students in the process of applying for universities.
