About Rika

Kon'nichiwa! I am Rika - Your friendly Japanese teacher.

I am a native Japanese teacher with over 5 years of experience, born and raised in Japan. Being half Japanese and half American, I speak English fluently.

SInce 2020, I have been living in France, teaching Japanese while learning French myself - so I completely understand what it's like to learn a new language!

I teach Japanese to students are are over 12, and with every level. I do have 2 basic structures for my lessons, but if you do not fit into them, don't worry! Please contact me for availabilities!

【About Myself】

I teach to children (12+) and adults from all around the world-including France, the UK, Germany, Canada, India, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Poland, Estonia, South Korea, China, Turkey and Romania.

【Lessons For Different Levels】

Although I have a general lesson structure, my lessons are very flexible. I am happy to customize each class based on your interests, goals, or requests. For the general structures, please take a look below! (^^)

★Beginners★

Let's build your Japanese skills from the ground up! I use custom materials, a degital whiteboard, and share all resources after each class.

Our goal is to be able to understand and express yourself with basic Japanese. You will learn grammar and vocabulary through phrases, not isolated memorization.

-Highly organized, easy-to-follow lessons

-Plenty of speaking practice

-Optional homework

-48-lesson beginner course (complete in 100-200 hours)

-Taught in English with lots of Japanese speaking time

★Intermediate & Advanced Learners★

Lessons are conducted entirely in Japanese and focus on natural conversation. Not JLPT-focused, but we can cover JLPT content if you wish.

Typical Lesson Flow:

1. Watch a short video or read an article (homework)

2. Review vocabulary, kanji, and grammar together

3. Discuss your opinions and experiences

4. I correct and explain naturally as we talk

I have been teaching Japanese since 2020. I have done more than 1000 lessons, and it is truly one of my "ikigai" - my source of purpose and joy. Growing up bilingual, and now living in France, I understand how language connects people and cultures. I am passionate about helping my students communicate confidently and enjoy learning! (^^)
