About Riya

Hi there!. I'm Riya. I've been engaged with Korean and other foreign languages for more than 6 years. I'm an experienced Korean tutor and a translator, subtitle service provider, transcription provider, proofreader and have been working with Rakuten Viki, Hulu, LG and many other Korean YouTube channels I would love to share my Language knowledge with you people so that you can see the Korean dramas without subtitles and I LOVE talking about Korean dramas. Veena joined my language classes with her sister Vidhya and I am so lucky to get this due in my classroom. They both are so energetic, enthusiastic and asks a lot of questions which is the best thing for me a teacher. I always look forward to have sessions with them. It was great to have Ishani onboard with me. She's a very passionate learner with the knowledge of Japanese language already. Since she was so interested in Korean, she already knew basics of the language and I just had to tune it up...
Now... We've completed 2 sessions successfully and she's already doing great and I'm sure by the 4th session she'll be ready to read, write and speak korean well.

Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?
I teach the Korean language from all levels to all age groups. It's been 6 years since I've been engaged with this language and the reason I developed an interest in this field is that languages hold such a great power that we can see and witness today, since we learned how to speak and express ourselves we can make a war or break it!! This is kind of fascinating to me that the world we are living in is all because of someone's words, promises, commitment, and language. If people didn't know how to speak then we'll never be able to discover BTS's talent.
What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?
Incidents and past experiences, I would say that I don't have any role model really whom I look up to but I had inspirations, incidents, and experiences which led me to this road to becoming a teacher. I've always been very good with learning languages but when I actually got to know that damn! I'm really glad that I learned a totally new language all by myself. I had the motivation to do something with it and that's how it started.
p.s. I have a student who's a teacher herself, and seeing her happy and calm made me compare teaching life and corporate life thus I can say that thanks to my Korean skills I could escape from the Corporate jungle.
How does your work help society?
My work helps people connect, indulge and understand other cultures, and traditions and gives a sense of unity in the world and the feeling that each and every person belongs to this earth, this moment, and time. It gives the people a sense that no one is different, everyone is an equal human being.
Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.
I like learning and discovering different language contents, I also spend my time doing mandala art and doodling, sometimes sewing as well.
