About Christopher

I've been a freelance pianist and accompanist in NYC for over 25 years. I make a living playing for opera singers, playing concerts, writing arrangements & compositions, and playing for church services, weddings, and cocktail gigs. I teach select piano and voice students on my grand piano in my house in the South Bronx. chriscooleypiano.com

I was involved in an excellent teacher training program as a part of my Piano Pedagogy studies at UT-Austin. Sophia Gilmson, an excellent Russian pedagogue, observed my lessons with children and provided constant feedback. I learned her system for beginners: technique, scales, sight reading, and repertoire, all of which is applicable to advanced students as well.

DMA in Collaborative Piano, Manhattan School of Music

MM in Piano, University of Texas at Austin

BM in Piano, Florida State University

About the lesson

I was a teaching assistant for Heasook Rhee (my former teacher) at MSM and taught her graduate students in accompanying and chamber music.

This summer I had the pleasure of coaching advanced pianists as a faculty member at Orvieto Musica in Orvieto, Italy, where I also performed Beethoven and Franck violin sonatas. I also served as an adjunct vocal coach and accompanist at Brooklyn College, where I taught diction class and coached the opera.
