About Janet

I am a committed French tutor with 6 years of experience teaching students of all levels, from school-age beginners to adult learners. Throughout my tutoring career, I have taught 150 to 200 students, focusing on customized lesson plans that meet the unique needs and goals of each individual. My approach revolves around patience, clarity, and cultural immersion to create an effective and enjoyable learning experience. I use a variety of techniques including conversation practice, grammar exercises, and listening activities, all grounded in real-life examples and cultural context. This practical approach helps students develop fluency and confidence in speaking French, while also enhancing their reading and writing skills. About the lesson

My approach to teaching French centers on fostering communication skills, building confidence, and nurturing cultural curiosity. I firmly believe that language is best learned through meaningful, active use rather than passive memorization, so from the outset, I create an encouraging environment where students feel comfortable experimenting with French, making mistakes, and growing their skills.

I employ a communicative method that prioritizes speaking and listening activities, encouraging students to engage in conversations, narrate experiences, and participate in role-plays that mirror real-life situations such as ordering at a café, asking for directions, or sharing opinions. Grammar and vocabulary are introduced contextually rather than in isolation, helping learners see the practical function of language structures in everyday communication. I tailor lessons to individual students’ objectives and learning styles—whether they are preparing for exams, traveling, or learning for personal enrichment—integrating a variety of engaging tools such as songs, games, visual aids, articles, and authentic materials.

Cultural immersion is woven into lessons by exploring francophone traditions, films, music, and current events, allowing students to connect with the richness and diversity of the French-speaking world. A particularly rewarding experience was guiding a student who struggled with grammar concepts for years; through simplified explanations and creative practice drills, they gained clarity and passed a crucial proficiency exam that enabled a transformative study abroad opportunity.

I also incorporate technology, using flashcard apps, audio exercises, quizzes, and personalized vocabulary lists to support learning outside the classroom and provide consistent feedback and progress tracking. Ultimately, my mission is to empower students not only to understand French more deeply but to feel confident and inspired to communicate authentically and embrace lifelong cultural exploration.
