About Justin

As a trained musician and teaching artist, I bring over 28 years of experience to any teaching experience. My colleagues hail from all around the world, which has given me the experience of navigating different personalities, cultures and customs, while still being sensitive to the needs of my students. I have honed and applied these interpersonal and organizational skills, both on and off-stage, throughout my career as an
educator, program director, administrative assistant and more.
As director of a secondary school music program, I have designed and implemented curriculum
for classroom and individual instruction suitable for students of all levels.
In my role as an educator, I guide students along their journey in a holistic way: helping students to solve problems critically while fostering their abilities as an artist, and providing them with the fundamentals of string pedagogy. As a mentor I have assisted countless students
in the application, preparation and selection process of higher education and summer programs
around the world. Some examples include Carnegie Mellon University, Juilliard, Oberlin College,
Peabody Institute - John Hopkins University, University of California Berkeley, Tulane University
and Berklee College of Music Valencia Spain

Whatever level you are, I assure that you will gain the necessary skills and enjoy working together.

About the lesson

16 years of teaching and coaching experience around the United States in both classical and non-classical genres.

Philosophy: it is my humble belief that my job as an educator is to guide students along their journey to become self sufficient, by passing along the tools and skills I have learned from my mentors, continuing the legacy of Dorothy DeLay and Karen Tuttle.
I am open to teaching students of any age and level of ability.

I have studied a variety of styles that have allowed me to design and implement curated lessons for any student by focusing on the foundations of the violin and viola regardless of the genre.
