About Brielle
Hi, I am a violin tutor with over 5 years of experience and a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnomusicology, with a focus on fiddle and folk traditions. My path into music started outside the classical world, and I have spent years studying folk styles from different cultures and regions. Teaching fiddle lets me share that same joy and freedom with my students.
I teach playing by ear, ornamentation, and rhythm-heavy folk tunes rather than relying only on written sheet music. My students range from classically trained violinists curious about folk styles to complete beginners drawn to the sound of fiddle music. We spend a lot of time listening, imitating, and playing tunes by ear together.
I once worked with a classically trained violinist who could read anything but had never played a note without sheet music in front of her. We slowly built her ear training skills using simple folk tunes, and within months she was jamming confidently at a local folk session. She still tells me it changed the way she hears music entirely.
Fiddle music connects people in a way that feels different from formal performance. I would love to bring that joy into your own playing.

My teaching approach centers on fiddle playing and folk musical traditions from around the world. Unlike classical training, fiddle music thrives on feel, ornamentation, and playing by ear rather than strict note reading. We start by learning tunes through listening and imitation, the same way fiddle players have for generations.
From there, we work on ornamentation like slides, drones, and double stops that give folk music its distinctive character. Rhythm and groove get special focus, since fiddle tunes are often meant for dancing, not just listening. I also introduce students to different folk traditions, so they understand where certain styles and techniques come from.
Some students come from a classical background and are surprised by how much freedom fiddle playing allows, so I help them loosen their bow arm and trust their ear more. Others have no formal training at all and pick up tunes naturally just by listening closely, and I build their skills around that strength. Either way, the tunes come first.
Fiddle music is meant to be shared, played loudly, and enjoyed. Let's learn some tunes together.
