About Jay
I have been tutoring English for over 12 years, and in that time I have developed one specialism above everything else, getting students the grades they are genuinely capable of but not yet reaching.
My focus has always been exam technique. Not just knowing the content, but understanding exactly how to communicate it to an examiner in a way that unlocks the higher mark bands. That difference between a student who knows the text and a student who knows how to write about it is where grades 5 and 6 become grades 7, 8 and 9. I have spent over a decade learning precisely where that gap is and how to close it.
The results speak for themselves. The vast majority of students I work with move up at least two grade boundaries. Many arrive thinking a grade 5 is their ceiling. They leave with a 7, 8 or 9 on their certificate.
I built The GCSE Booster Lab because I wanted to take that expertise beyond one-to-one sessions and give more students access to the same structured, technique-focused preparation in a format that mirrors the real exam experience from day one.
If your child knows the material but isn't converting it into marks, that is exactly the problem I solve.

Rather than one-to-one tutoring, I run structured, exam-conditions mock sessions using authentic past-paper style questions across all major exam boards — AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC Eduqas. Students sit the paper that matches their specific board and their Literature set texts, whether that's Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls, Jekyll and Hyde or the AQA Poetry Anthology.
Every Saturday session is followed by a live online review class where I go through the paper question by question, explain exactly what the examiner is looking for, share grade 9 model answers and give each student individual feedback on where their marks were lost and how to get them back.
This combination of exam practice and detailed review is where real improvement happens. Students don't just practise they understand precisely what to do differently next time.
Sessions run every Saturday and are £35 per student. Online review classes follow mid-week. I serve students from schools across Sutton, Kingston, Cheam, Morden, Wimbledon, Epsom, Twickenham and surrounding areas.
