About William
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching for 15 years; all ages and standards. Some of my pupils have gone on to be professional musicians. I put on regular concerts for my pupils to perform at, which gives them something to work for, and is very exciting for all concerned! I've taught various workshops and at summer schools.
I have had a 15 year career as a performer, playing across the Europe with many of the finest current jazz musicians. I have played on many recordings, including 4 under my name. Performances have been broadcast on Radio 3, 4 and Jazz FM
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I have an up to date DBS certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I have studied with Dominic Spencer, Steve Lodder, Liam Noble, Simon Purcell, Robin Aspland, and have attended various masterclasses with a range of brilliant teachers including Ethan Iverson.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach a wide range of students from of about 10 years old to adult beginners and adults beginning to professional players. I try and get the pupils together as much as possible to perform to each other and exchange ideas.

I have been a professional musician for 15 years, performing across Britain and Europe. I love jazz and classical music in equal measure, and my goal is to help pupils discover their own individual voice, through serious, committed and joyful study.

- Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied harmony and composition while at Edinburgh University. The two teachers I learned the most from are the incredible pianists Dominic Spencer and Steve Lodder.
- How much do you charge?
£40 per hour.
- Where do you teach?
I teach at home in Brockley in a home studio, but i'm happy to travel to most places in London, but I do charge a little more for this.. £45 per hour.
- When are you available?
Daytimes. All week and weekends. Some week nights.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All levels.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Happy to put students through grades. It can be a useful way to progress. It really depends on the pupil!

Skype lessons available (only for jazz piano). I provide the supporting literature via email.
