About Mia

I am a singing tutor with over 9 years of teaching experience. I work with school and college students of all skill levels. Over the years, I have successfully taught between 200 and 250 students. Many of my students have cleared graded exams with high scores, won inter-school competitions, and performed confidently at college events and local shows. My teaching philosophy is rooted in real-life application, accountability, collaboration, and patience. I believe that singing is a blend of technique, emotion, and personal expression. I focus on building a strong vocal foundation through breath control, pitch accuracy, resonance, and vocal health. I also teach ear training, music theory, performance skills, and song interpretation to create well-rounded singers. I use practical examples and case studies from professional performances to make lessons relatable. I hold my students accountable for their practice but I am always patient and supportive. I encourage collaboration by involving them in song selection and goal setting. My students enjoy their lessons and grow steadily. I am proud of the confidence they build and the joy they find in singing.

"My teaching approach is built on four core values: real-life examples and case studies, accountability, collaboration, and patience. I believe that singing is not just a technical skill but a form of communication and self-expression. My goal is to help students develop both their voice and their confidence in a supportive and structured environment. Real-life examples and case studies are central to my teaching. I do not just explain concepts in theory. I show my students how professional singers use breath control, phrasing, and emotion in their performances. I use recordings and videos to analyze what works and why. I also share stories from my own experience and from other students I have taught. When a student struggles with a specific issue, I refer to past cases where similar challenges were overcome. This makes learning practical and relatable. Accountability is another pillar. I help students set clear short-term and long-term goals. I track their progress and hold them responsible for their practice commitments. I do not scold or pressure them. Instead, I help them understand the connection between consistent effort and improvement. I also hold myself accountable by preparing thoroughly for every lesson and giving honest feedback. Collaboration is key in my studio. I treat my students as partners in their learning journey. I ask for their input on song choices, practice schedules, and areas they want to focus on. I encourage them to share their thoughts and feelings about singing. This two-way communication builds trust and makes lessons more engaging. Patience is the foundation of everything I do. I understand that vocal development takes time. Some students progress quickly while others need more time to build confidence and skill. I never rush or compare students to others. I celebrate each small victory and remind them that every step forward is meaningful.

My methodology covers a wide range of singing subjects. Vocal technique is the primary focus. I teach breath support, posture, vocal cord closure, resonance, and vowel shaping. I use exercises that are safe and effective for building strength and flexibility without strain. Ear training is included to develop pitch accuracy and listening skills. I do interval drills, call-and-response, and harmony exercises to sharpen their musical ear. Music theory is woven into lessons to help students understand rhythm, key signatures, and musical structure. This empowers them to learn new songs independently. Performance skills are a major subject. I teach stage presence, eye contact, emotional delivery, and how to connect with an audience. We also work on managing performance anxiety and building mental resilience. Song interpretation and storytelling are central to my lessons. I guide students in analyzing lyrics, understanding the emotion behind the words, and using dynamics and tone to convey meaning. This transforms their singing from technical to expressive. Vocal health is always addressed. I teach warm-ups, cool-downs, hydration, and vocal rest. I help students recognize signs of fatigue and prevent injury. Diction and articulation are also covered to ensure clarity in different languages.

I also include improvisation and style exploration. I teach students how to add runs, riffs, and ornaments in pop and R&B. For classical styles, I focus on purity of tone and phrasing. This helps students find their unique voice and adapt to different genres. Recording and playback are used during lessons for self-assessment. Students learn to hear themselves objectively and identify areas for improvement. Each lesson follows a logical flow. We begin with physical and vocal warm-ups, move to technical exercises, then apply techniques to chosen songs. I end with a review and a clear practice plan for the week. I also adjust my approach based on regular assessments and feedback. My ultimate aim is to produce singers who are technically skilled, emotionally expressive, and confident in their own voice."
