About Donna
Writing coach, advisor on study skills, mentor to academically challenged youth, attorney experienced in juvenile advocacy, I help students of all levels to read well, write well.and think well.
For the student who is having academic challenges and need study skills, a tutor can easily teach a student grammatical skills, sentence structure and reading comprehension and at first glance, these skills may seem very foundational, however, these are the skills that build's a student's belief and confidence in their own intellect.
I have been in the legal field for 30 years and I have decades of experience in juvenile adovacy, a field of which I am passionate and which has given me experience with juveniles and the challenges they face.
I specialize in advising, guiding and encouraging students preparing them for academic rigor and real world challenges.
I help students to obtain reading, thinking and writing skills and give them the tools to transform these skills into academic success, better decision making and strategic career decisions.
In helping to advise parents and youth in problem solving over many decades, my experience as a legal advocate helps me to see a problem, see the challenges and road blocks and finally, the student and I create a solution.

For the student who needs advanced skills in reading, writing and literature, I write, read and study literature. I research and analyze ways in which world history and culture, shape us. The vehicle I use is a cultural evolutionary framework, spanning thousands of years, across various lands, looking at the beginnings and endings of civilizations and how people use reading and literature to understand a changing world.
I am a writer, researcher and practicing attorney, with decades of experience reading world literature, analyzing complex legal documents, researching difficult public policy issues, doing independent research on comparitive civilizations and cultures and writing persuasive arguments.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from Mount Holyoke Colege and a J.D. from Rutgers University School of law.
Our world is changing rapidly, I advise students on how to academically navigate this new world, while remaining confident and secure in their intellectual abilities.
When students read well, they think well and when they think well, they write with confidence and purpose.
These are the skills teacher, professors and employers seek in a student's academic work and abilities, and these are exactly the skills I enjoy teaching students of various ages, different reading levels and from diverse backgrounds.
I emphasize reading, comprehension, literary mastery and critical thinking as intellectual skills easily transferable from academics to career to real life.

My lessons encourage critical thinking, confidence and independent learning.
Teaching sessions are interactive and supportive. The sessions are designed to help each student achieve lasting success and intellectual confidence.
Every lesson begins with an assessment of the student's goals, current assignments, and areas of difficulty.
I tailor each session to the individual student's learning style and focus on improving reading, comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills.
I am a practicing attorney, skilled in persuasive argument, logical thinking and reasoning . I can guide students in strategic academic and career choices.
I research, study and write on the ways individuals, families and groups, have adapted to the constant changes in life, with strength and resilience, along the continuing ebb and flow of time.
In additiion to the classics, I also specialize in multi layered literature and history, with a focus on African-American, Caribbean and African literature.
My study in anthropology, decades of independent research and the practice of law, allows me to adopt my framework to all cultures, from African, Latin American, East Indian, Eastern European, Native American and Southeast Asian.
Reading is a superpower. Literary comprehension and analysis shows where a student needs training. Writing shows how well a student has mastered this skill.
My goal as a tutor is to assist students to read very well and to think critically Students who read well and think for themselves, write with purpose and clarity. As an educator, witnessing a students intellectual and reasoning progress is a beautiful thing to behold. This skill is valuable to the teacher, professor and employer.
