About Mark
One way or another, I have been a writer and editor for 35+ years. I was a professional musician when I got my start in journalism in 1983 by proofreading rosters at a sports magazine. There, the chief editor took me under his wing and taught me the trade. Since then I have worked as a freelance reporter, creative writer for marketing companies, and magazine editor. Technology has changed a lot during those years, but the worth of clear, effective writing has remained constant.

We'll start with your essays, polishing your own work as we discuss grammar, punctuation, and clarity. You'll learn how to proof your own work, and the various methods you can apply to improve it. I'll show you how to proofread and edit the writing of others as well: how to mark up a manuscript, check facts, and when to query the author for missing details. And you'll learn what to look for as an editor to eliminate errors, clear up ambiguities, and avoid repetition. Your writing will be better for it.
