About Aviana
"Picking tunes at Newfoundland kitchen parties shaped my early relationship with music by learning everything by ear from older players. This informal education eventually led me to earn a Certificate in Traditional Music from the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. My approach centers on the natural musical flow rather than rushing into notation before the hands are ready. I have spent 10 years guiding students through posture, intonation, and bowing techniques like spiccato or staccato.
Helping performance-focused students and hobbyists refine their vibrato or shift positions is work I find deeply rewarding. I focus on tone production and music theory while maintaining an unhurried atmosphere.
Many returning learners find that my background in early childhood folk instruction helps simplify complex concepts. My classroom environment feels more like a shared living room than a sterile conservatory. Whether you want to master orchestral playing or just get comfortable with tuning by ear, I am here to help. "Starting a lesson usually involves setting down the instrument to listen to a specific phrase until it settles into your memory. We then bridge that internal sound to physical mechanics like proper hold and bowing paths. My 10 years of experience allow me to spot tension in your shifting or intonation before it becomes a habit.
I adapt to the pace of returning learners and hobbyists who need a clear path forward. Learning is a process.
This structure ensures that your growth remains consistent throughout the year. I provide a monthly progress report shared with parents to keep everyone aligned on your development.
