About Satyanarayana

I’m a Carnatic music teacher with over 35 years of experience in both vocal and keyboard training. Though I studied B.Com, my true passion has always been music, which led me to complete a 7-year Diploma in Carnatic Music. I’ve taught in schools and offered home tuitions, working closely with children to build a strong foundation in classical music. My teaching style is calm, encouraging, and tailored to each student’s pace. Whether it’s vocal or keyboard, I focus fully on the Carnatic method—starting from the basics and guiding them steadily through each stage of learning.

About the lesson

Teaching Approach

With over 35 years of experience teaching Carnatic vocal music and keyboard, my approach is entirely personalized to each child. I spend time understanding their individual strengths and where they need more support. I believe children learn best when they feel encouraged, not pressured—so I never take a strict approach.

I focus on building a strong foundation from the basics. There are no shortcuts in music. Through regular practice and gentle correction, I help each student progress at their own pace until they gain confidence and clarity in what they’re learning. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with many children, and I’ve learned how to bring out the best in each one with care and consistency.

Carnatic Vocal Classes

For vocal training, I follow the structured path of Carnatic music using the recommended books. Classes begin with the basics—swaras, alankaras, and simple exercises—before moving on to geethams, varnams, and kritis. I ensure that students develop proper pitch (sruti), rhythm (laya), and a clear understanding of the compositions. Each lesson is built around steady improvement, and I always make time to repeat, revise, and reinforce what’s been learned.

Carnatic Keyboard Classes

My keyboard classes are also rooted fully in Carnatic music. Students learn to play using swaras, just like in vocal training. I teach them how to map each raga and composition onto the keyboard, helping them understand the structure of the ragas, rhythm cycles, and how to bring out the Carnatic feel even on a modern instrument. The classes are hands-on, gradual, and always adapted to how the child learns best.
