About Shirlee
Integrating memorization techniques into daily practice is where I start, building from pop and contemporary styles. My focus remains on scales and arpeggios because they underpin all technical clarity in piano performance. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the Eastman School of Music, I have spent 8 years refining these core methods.
Developing consistent habits helps students navigate complex arrangements with ease. I maintain a methodical approach to chord voicing to ensure the music sounds rich and professional. Teaching remains a constant pursuit for me, balancing technical rigor with the simple joy of creating music.

Weekly practice modules assigned with every class provide the structure necessary for measurable technical progress. Piano study requires a balance between discipline and creative freedom during the early stages.
I bring my Eastman School of Music training into every technical critique I offer. Students often find that specific focus on sight playing improves their overall confidence within 1 term.
We examine individual challenges during each meeting to refine hand positioning and posture. My method relies on clear, logical steps to ensure the physical mechanics of playing are sound.
I prefer to treat the instrument as a tool that requires specific maintenance. You will receive clear guidance on how to organize your practice time effectively. Everything we study aims to deepen your connection to the music itself.
