About Alex

Economics comes alive when it is connected to the real world. I believe the best way to learn Economics is through intuition, real-world examples, and discussions of current economic issues, helping students understand not just what economic theories are, but why they matter. My goal is to make learning Economics engaging, accessible, and enjoyable while giving students the confidence to apply economic thinking beyond the classroom.

I am academic staff at a leading UK university, holding a PhD in Economics and recognised as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). With more than 15 years of teaching experience, I have taught and mentored students from a wide range of academic backgrounds, helping them achieve their goals at every stage of their education.

I offer tuition for GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, undergraduate, and postgraduate Economics, as well as support in econometrics, statistics, research methods, dissertations, and coursework. Whether you are preparing for an important exam, aiming for higher grades, or tackling advanced university topics, every lesson is carefully tailored to your individual needs, learning style, and objectives.

My teaching is highly interactive and student-centred. I encourage questions, adapt my explanations to suit each learner, and use diagrams, visualisations, and practical examples to simplify even the most challenging concepts. Rather than relying on memorisation alone, I focus on developing a deep understanding that enables students to think critically, solve problems independently, and perform with confidence in examinations.

About the lesson

I believe students learn Economics best when they understand the intuition behind concepts rather than simply memorising definitions or diagrams. That's why every lesson combines clear explanations, real-world examples, and discussions of current economic issues to help students connect classroom theory with what is happening in today's economy. My aim is to develop confident, independent thinkers who can apply economic reasoning to any question.

GCSE, IGCSE & A-Level Economics:

These are the levels I teach most frequently, and my lessons are designed to help students build both confidence and strong exam performance.

Rather than rushing through the syllabus, I ensure students develop a solid understanding of the fundamental ideas that underpin Economics. Once students grasp the logic behind concepts such as inflation, unemployment, market failure, or international trade, they find it much easier to analyse unfamiliar questions and produce high-quality answers.

A typical lesson may include:

● Explaining difficult concepts using intuitive and practical examples.
● Linking economic theory to current events and policy debates.
● Developing analytical and evaluation skills required for high-mark questions.
● Improving exam technique, including essay structure, data response questions, and time management.
● Reviewing past paper questions and examiner expectations.

My goal is not simply to help students achieve better grades, but to help them think like economists and enjoy the subject.

University Students:

I also support undergraduate and postgraduate students studying Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, Research Methods, and related subjects. Whether you need help understanding lecture material, preparing for examinations, analysing data, or completing coursework and dissertations, I provide structured guidance that focuses on genuine understanding rather than memorisation.
