About Rory

I started acting in my 20s and, apart from a short break in between then, have been working at it ever since. I am in the process of graduating from Rose Bruford College with an MA in Actor/Performer training. Prior to this, I studied at the Bristol Acting Academy, an evening classes course run by members of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School faculty. I also studied for a year on the 18-25s theatre school at Theatre Royal Bath, a part-time course focused on Devised Theatre. I have a strong grounding in different theatrical traditions and have probably come across a lot of the same problems many actors face when learning a part. Other than this, I have a BA in Comparative Literature from King's College London and I am a CELTA qualified ESOL teacher.

About the lesson

Experience of applying and getting into drama school at MA level. Experienced fringe and independent performer. Qualified ESL teacher. I can help you with a Stanislavskian text-based approach. The ground zero for most actor training. My training has also introduced me to the psycho-physical approach of Eastern European theatre which grew out of Grotowski's theatre in the 1960s. I have experience making and training in Devised Theatre, and I have written and produced short films. I have insight into many sides of the actor's process. I have a sympathetic and respectful approach to the different challenges actors face finding their way to a great performance. I can help you if you already have some experience but find yourself stuck at a certain level, or I can help you if you are completely new to acting and are looking for ways to open yourself up to the craft. And, anyone in between! I will generally keep lessons short (1-2hr) to provide you with the tools and grammar to acting which you will then be able to apply yourself in your own time.
