About Marisa

I am a produced playwright and director currently in Los Angeles. I received my undergraduate degree from USC and have been working professionally in theater since graduating as well as acting as a tutor for a large private company. I not only have a breadth of knowledge in theatrical standards and current acting trends/styles, but I also have the professional teaching experience to ensure you get the most out of every minute of our time together.

About the lesson

I have over 10 years of theatrical training that spans dramatic acting, directing, movement for actors, voice acting, clown, comedy (Stand-Up and Improv at USC and Groundlings) and I am currently a TA for several critical studies courses at USC in the theatre school! I’m a playwright primarily and also work for a small theater out in Los Angeles that focuses on new works.
My specialties:
-Script analysis: let’s break a script down together into different chunks and figure out what’s going on throughout it. Let’s figure out together the most effective way into understanding it for you!
-Dramatic writing: building structure and inspiring ideas + coming up with tangible goals for success using some of my own developed methods and those of my greatest playwriting teachers!
-Monologue coaching: breaking it down beat by beat and finding your character. Leave our sessions feeling like you have at least two strong takes on the piece and understand how it could be adjusted by a director.
-Dramaturgy: let’s break down ideas in the script you don’t understand together/look them up and give them context!
- Comedy Work-out: let’s do some improv exercises together to help you get out of your head and into your body. We can work on the fundamentals of building your comedic characters for improv or developing a point of view for your stand-up!

Things you should know about me: I am a devoted educator who truly loves what I studied and continue to study. My goal is always to meet you where you are at and provide a clear and concise process to you that will yield tangible results in helping you feel more confident and inspired in your craft.

FIRST LESSON: is a half-hour getting to know you. I will send you a Zoom link so we can discuss what your goals are and what you would like to get out of instruction. This is NOT an entire lesson. Think of it more as an intake for what we are going to do overall. I don't take my students' instruction lightly and do individual research/provide resources to customize your entire experience.

The base rate ($70/hr) is only for instruction. This does not include a provided space. I am able to suggest communal, mostly private locations for us to work, but there is no guarantee.

If you are having financial hardships, please message me and I will see what we can do.
