I’ve always done well in school, especially in subjects like English, history, and anything that involves discussion or writing. Maths, though, was never something I enjoyed—it just didn’t click in the same way. It wasn’t that I couldn’t do it, but more that I didn’t connect with it and found it hard to stay motivated. Still, I knew I needed to pass my GCSE and was aiming for a C.
Working with Annie really helped me stay on track. They understood that I wasn’t coming in with a maths mindset, and they didn’t make me feel bad about that. Instead of trying to turn me into someone who suddenly loves maths, they helped me approach it in a way that made sense to me. Their explanations were clear and grounded in logic, and they were patient when I needed to go over something more than once. Over time, I started to understand areas I used to avoid—like algebra and problem-solving. I didn’t suddenly become someone who loves maths, but I did feel like I had more control over it, rather than the other way around. I got better at staying focused, and my confidence definitely improved.
In the end, I met the grade I was aiming for, which I’m proud of. The sessions gave me the support I needed to get through something I found difficult, and I can look back on that experience as something that really helped me move forward.
