My approach as a tutor is centered around making difficult concepts feel approachable, intuitive, and fun! I know from my own experience in biochemistry and science courses that subjects like chemistry, biology, anatomy, and scientific writing can seem overwhelming when they are taught as isolated facts to memorize. I focus instead on helping students understand the “why” behind what they are learning so they can build confidence and retain the material long-term.
I tailor every lesson to the individual student’s goals, learning style, and course level. Some students learn best through diagrams and visual explanations, while others benefit more from practice problems, repetition, analogies, or talking concepts through step-by-step. I adapt my teaching style to what works best for each student rather than using the same method for everyone.
A typical lesson begins with identifying what the student is currently struggling with and what they need to accomplish, whether that is preparing for an exam, understanding a specific chapter, completing an assignment, or improving study habits. From there, I explain the concept in a clear and simplified way, usually breaking it into smaller pieces and connecting it to real-world examples. We then work through examples and practice questions together until the student feels comfortable solving problems independently. At the end of each session, I review the main ideas, answer any remaining questions, and often provide a few additional problems or study strategies to reinforce the material.
