About Arshan

Having a genetic disorder myself really makes me ponder over the Human body. The intricacies and complexities of day-to-day functionings that we are so used to, I believe, are enough to light up the room of awareness and introspection for me. I can relate to it every single day; I see my life as a vivid example of what could go wrong even when a single gene doesn’t do what it’s supposed to.

Around thirty years ago, a young man of 18, died; a very odd reference, I guess. Well, a heartbreaking one! He was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, due to him being a haemophiliac requiring regular blood transfusions; even though he’s gone, he is a catalyst of reforms in the healthcare system when it was vulnerable.

I value researching diseases and it’s a meaningful aspect of my story. As I noted before that this element is very special and personal to me because I can relate to it. Through my research on HIV/AIDS epidemic, I learned matters in multitudes like underprepared healthcare and disconnection between regular mass and the scientific community. I love doing this and it gave me an insight into the political part of pandemics, particularly in the 80s. The interdisciplinary study that I have to do to understand these pandemics is interesting and invaluable; a pinch of politics, a handful of history, a pound of psychology and public behaviour make for a well rounded and contextual understanding.

Studying history to explore the French army’s hygiene regulations in wars for learning about Typhus, or psychology of plagues and pandemics to see the behavioural patterns in general public, it’s intriguing and engaging to learn all of that.

I developed the interest in researching diseases by the one and only Dr. Fauci; I consider him my mentor and I strive to be like him following his footsteps to the dynamic world of biology. These things are meaningful pieces of my life! These experiences that I went through are crucial to being a well rounded future scientific researcher.

About the lesson

Think about your birth. You were just a drop of liquid that turned into a stature of flesh and bone. Or imagine 30 trillion libraries inside you that regulate everything. Have you thought about the seeds we sow and how the fruits come from the dirt below. My heart beats thousands of time while it’s not me who makes it beat on time; Questions like these make me more curious to study biology at micro-scale and keep me on the path of discovering more new things.
With live interactive classes we will learn about everything practically; you can also learn how to do an academic research. I have a solid background in biology so the classes would be productive and fun!
