About Laila
I am a Biology graduate from the University of Colorado Denver with a strong background in science, writing, and bilingual learning. I tutor high school and college-level biology, as well as high school Spanish 1, Spanish 2, English, and writing. I received the Seal of Biliteracy when I graduated from high school, and I also have experience as a high school writing tutor and university learning assistant.
My goal as a tutor is to make learning feel less overwhelming. I explain topics in a clear, patient, and step-by-step way, while adapting each session to the student’s needs. Whether a student needs help understanding biology concepts, improving an essay, preparing for an exam, or building confidence in class, I focus on creating a supportive and personalized learning experience. :)

My tutoring approach is personalized, patient, and focused on helping each student understand the material in a clear and simple way. Before each session, I ask students to send me the topics they want to focus on, their syllabus, class materials, or any specific questions at least two days before we meet. This allows me to prepare a tutoring session that is individualized for their needs. However, if a student does not have materials prepared ahead of time, that is completely okay too. I can still guide the session based on where they feel confused and what they want to improve.
A typical lesson begins by identifying the main topics or questions the student wants help with. Then, I explain the concepts step by step, using examples, practice questions, and review strategies to make the material easier to understand. For biology, I focus on breaking down complex ideas into simpler parts and connecting them to real examples. For English and writing, I help students organize their ideas, improve grammar and clarity, strengthen essays, and feel more confident in their writing. For Spanish 1 and Spanish 2, I can help with vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, homework, and exam preparation.
What sets me apart is that I do not use the same lesson plan for every student. I create personalized sessions based on each student’s class, learning style, goals, and areas of difficulty. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, received the Seal of Biliteracy when I graduated from high school, and have previous experience as a high school writing tutor. I also have experience as a university learning assistant, which helped me learn how to support students in a patient, encouraging, and student-centered way.
My biology lessons are for students of all ages, including high school and college/university-level students. My Spanish, English, and writing tutoring is mainly for high school students, including students who need help with Spanish 1, Spanish 2, English class assignments, essay writing, grammar, organization, and academic writing skills.
