About Marcia
I am a biomedical engineering PhD student, using mathematical modelling to optimise preclinical testing of medication. This project combines principles and techniques from mathematics, physics and biology. I was the recipient of 3 scholarships during my undergraduate degree, a testament to my academic achievements. I graduated with a Master's degree (MEng) with first-class honours and subsequently received a studentship from the EPSRC to fund my PhD. I have tutored maths for 8 years and am passionate about helping young people achieve their full potential and grow in confidence with a subject they once feared/dreaded. I have also worked as a tutor and marker for the first-year engineering maths course at the University of Glasgow.

I believe that no two individuals will learn in the same way. Therefore I strive to be flexible in my approach so that the student's individual needs can be catered for. I believe that mathematics can be fun and is best learned through practicing example questions. I will give an outline of how I personally would go about solving a problem and give this outline to the student as part of their notes. I think it is important to foster a relaxed environment and build rapport so the young person feels safe and comfortable to ask any questions they have, without fear of judgment. Many young people feel anxious or embarrassed in a classroom setting about asking for help, but in my lessons there are no "silly questions", only things they do not yet understand.
