About Daniel
I have recently graduated from Durham University with a 2:1 BSc Hons in Biomedical Science. While at college I tutored A level Biology and Maths as part of a student mentorship scheme and during my degree I took part in the 'Biology into Schools' module which consisted of weekly tutorials in teaching theory followed by a placement in a local secondary school. At the school I assisted in the teaching of GSCE science lessons and gave my own revision lessons to whole classes and also taught struggling students in small groups away from the rest of their class.

Having studied pedagogy I try to teach based on the principles of constructivism and active learning. This involves presenting students with ideas and information and having them come to their own conclusions and then providing corrections if necessary as opposed to traditional rote learning. I find this helps keep students engaged and allows them to enjoy lessons more. This method of teaching is not applicable to all lessons so my teaching style is flexible for when it is less appropriate. For example the GCSE revision lessons I taught had to cover a broad range of content quite quickly. This involved less constructivism as students already had a basic understanding of the principles of the topics and less time consuming active activities.
