About Josh
I'm a PhD student studying molecular biology at University of Melbourne. Prior to this I worked as a Software Engineer for 5 years. Previous teaching experience includes tutoring 1st/2nd year University of Melbourne in algorithms and computational programming.
I love teaching. Figuring out how to explain complex ideas in the most digestible way is one of the most satisfying parts of academia. In my opinion, a lot of science can be daunting due to explanations which rely on unstated prior understanding. This can often dishearten people, when in actual fact the problem is with the explanation and not the student. Let's fix that by understanding where the student is at first, and then build an explanation from there.

My lessons are based around the students needs. Students will provide me with specific questions and concepts they need help with before the lesson. This will help me prepare similar questions and step-by-step explanations that make the content of the lesson. We'll have a good mix of quiet work and plenty of opportunities to chat about different concepts. The more questions the student asks, the better.
Typical lesson length is 1hr for secondary and undergraduate students.
