About Kirsty

I am a BMus (Hons) Community Music graduate offering classes to those of any skill level. My background is in music performance and community "musicking" which includes work with all different ages and backgrounds from bucket drumming, to classroom teaching and choir conducting. I also have extensive experience playing in ensembles and solo which has given me a broad experience of performance practice. I have extensive experience in both classical and traditional Irish performance, both of which I incorporate into my teaching to help you achieve a well-rounded style.

About the lesson

During my classes, I approach teaching as building blocks, building on any prior knowledge of music or flute playing etc and engage my students by relating their work to a wider picture so they can have tangible goals. I also really like my students to take the initiative to bring their own ideas to the lesson so I encourage students to expand their knowledge outside the lesson as well as within.

They are a lovely student to teach as they show great enthusiasm and a great aptitude for the flute. We have just begun to read sheet music and learn about flute technique which is already improving with each lesson, even at this early stage.

Deadly! Kirtsy is an excellent tutor, very flexible in her approach and adjusts her pace to suit the learner. I have been wanting to get some support in learning the low whistle and I got so much from Kirsty even in the very first lesson.
