About Letícia
I am a Brazilian teacher and writer who loves learning languages. Because I have experience in both learning languages and teaching them, I know what it feels like. I have a teaching degree in Portuguese and English, and I am doing a specialisation in Neuroeducation and Active Methodologies. I've also specialised in Gamification, with a certificate from the University of Pennsylvania. I have also run a Game Room project in a school, for which I was awarded a prize by Pearson for one of the Best Educational Practices of 2019. Right after graduating eight years ago, I started teaching both Portuguese and English. Through the years I saw many methods and approaches, but what stuck with me was the evidence that learning through games and fun was much more efficient than repetition, grammar rules, and boring textbooks. Mostly, what makes me prouder, is that I have been connecting British and Brazilian families through Portuguese, making people who could not talk to each other because of the barrier of language have full conversations. As a bonus, I get to share my country's culture!

Learning languages can be tricky. Throughout my years of language teaching, I've come up with an approach that makes every single activity seem like a game or a cool conversation with friends at the pub. You will learn the grammar and vocabulary without fretting over rules: it will come naturally and fluidly, while you play games, watch videos, or read texts that will show you Portuguese as it is spoken, as well as Brazil's rich culture. The lessons can be 1h, 1h30, or 2h (split into two classes a week), depending on the student's availability. For groups (2-6 people) the classes are always 1h30 minimum. I also have a wide range of extra material that I make available to students, so they can practise (in fun and interesting ways) outside of class. I teach mostly adults or older teens who seek to communicate with Brazilians (or Portuguese!) in their native languages. I have helped many families build a connection through the language. - If you know nothing at all, or understand a little but feel stuck: this class is for you! - if you speak some Portuguese, but need to practise so you improve and keep it sharp: this class is for you! If you want to quickly gain skills in Brazilian Portuguese without the stress of grammar and with lots of laughter and fun, get on board!

I have been having Brazilian Portuguese lessons with Leticia for 1 year now. I have come from not speaking any Portuguese to being able to have conversations. She is an interesting and knowledgeable tutor and her lessons are tailored to my interests and always at a level that makes me feel I am achieving! The content of each session is modern and relevant, nothing like “old school” language lessons.
Leticia is a great teacher and I have been having lessons with her for almost 3 years. She is always helpful and supportive and is really creative with her lessons which can include anything from games, reading / discussing text through to listening to music and understanding the meaning behind the lyrics. I would recommend Leticia to anyone from beginner level upwards who wants to learn and improve in an exciting and engaging way.
