About Amit
Hi, I'm Amit, a math tutor based in Los Angeles. I work with middle school and high school students on everything from basic algebra through to pre-calculus, and I genuinely enjoy the moment when a concept that felt impossible suddenly makes sense.
My approach is simple: I break problems down into clear, logical steps, and I never move on until the current one is solid. I believe that struggling with math is almost never about ability — it's usually about missing a foundation somewhere, or never having seen it explained the right way. That's what I'm here to fix.
I keep my sessions focused and structured, but relaxed enough that students feel comfortable asking anything. No question is too basic. No pace is too slow. What matters is that understanding builds steadily, session by session.

Teaching method and techniques
I teach math using a step-by-step approach — breaking every problem down into small, logical stages so nothing feels like a leap. Once a method clicks, I vary the problems so students learn to recognize patterns rather than memorize solutions. Questions are always welcome, and I pace every session around the student, not the other way around.
A typical lesson
Quick review (5–10 min) — We revisit the previous session and clear up anything that didn't stick. Homework mistakes become the best teaching moments.
New concept, together (20–25 min) — I walk through the new topic step by step, solving problems aloud so the student can see the thinking process, not just the answer.
Guided practice (15–20 min) — The student tries problems with me alongside. I give hints, not answers, until they can work independently.
Wrap-up & next steps (5 min) — We summarize what was covered, I set a few focused practice problems for the week, and we plan the next session.
What sets me apart
I never rush — if something takes three attempts to click, that's fine. Each session is built around your class, your upcoming tests, and the specific gaps we need to fill. My focus is always on the "why" behind each method, not just the steps, so that understanding actually sticks beyond the lesson.

My lessons are for middle school and high school students, covering everything from basic algebra up to pre-calculus. I also help students preparing for the SAT/ACT math sections. Whether your child is falling behind and needs to rebuild the basics, or is doing well and wants to push further, I adapt every session to exactly where they are and where they want to go.
