About Rosie

As a 23-year-old postgraduate student based in Edinburgh, I bring both academic dedication and real-life bilingual experience to my Portuguese lessons. Although I am British, I moved to Portugal when I was seven years old and completed my entire education in Portuguese, attending Portuguese schools throughout my studies. This background has allowed me to develop native-level fluency while also fully understanding the perspective of English speakers learning the language. During my studies, I gained experience tutoring English and have also helped many English-speaking friends learn Portuguese, giving me valuable insight into the challenges learners commonly face. I am passionate about sharing this beautiful language and helping students build the confidence to communicate naturally, especially so they can connect with locals and enjoy a richer cultural experience when visiting Portuguese-speaking countries.

About the lesson

I take a practical, student-centred approach to teaching Portuguese, focusing on real communication from the very first lesson. My methodology combines conversational practice, clear grammar explanations, and vocabulary building so students can quickly start using the language in everyday situations. I adapt each lesson to the learner’s goals—whether they want Portuguese for travel, work, academic study, or personal interest—and I use a mix of speaking exercises, listening activities, and short reading tasks to build confidence and fluency. Lessons typically last around 60 minutes, which allows enough time to review previous material, introduce new concepts, and practise speaking. I have experience tutoring learners with English as their first language and understand the common challenges they face when learning Portuguese, such as pronunciation and verb conjugation. My lessons are suitable for beginners through to intermediate learners, including teenagers and adults who want a supportive, engaging environment to develop their Portuguese skills.
