About Gary

Although I have over 20 years teaching experience, I'm relatively new to tutoring, having started in April 2025. That said, I love all things business, both in theory and in practice (I'll be launching my own start-up in 2026!). For the last 12 years I have worked at an independent school in Taunton but before that I worked at state schools in London, and schools in Spain and Thailand. I have extensive experience working with students who have EAL or SEND, and have taught students from over 50 nationalities. Whilst students say that I'm patient, kind, and relaxed, the objective will be to make progress in every session and give you the confidence to succeed and achieve your full potential, both in your normal classroom and your examinations.

About the lesson

As a teacher, I believe in active and personalised learning, and that is what I would like my tutoring sessions to be like. No lectures here! Each session will run for one hour and be based on what you need. Identifying and dealing with your misconceptions, strengthening your subject knowledge, and teaching you how to maximise your score when writing answers to examination questions. We will use a range of techniques and strategies such as retrieval practice, interleaving, timed activities and essays, EdTech, and dual-coding. As we work together we will find out what works for you and adapt the sessions accordingly. Lessons are typically for students taking (or planning to take) GCSE/IGCSE or A-Level Business Studies. However, I have experience of other curricula including BTEC Business/Enterprise/Travel and Tourism, International Baccalaureate, and the NCUK International Foundation Year.
