About Tanbeer
Hi there! I'm Tanbeer. I'm in my final year at the University of Cambridge studying Natural Sciences, specialising in Pharmacology.
I studied A-Level Maths, Biology and Chemistry at a highly academic sixth form and achieved three A*s, scoring above 90% in each paper. In my GCSEs I was awarded seven grade 9s, breaking my school's record for the highest grade point average. I also went through the Cambridge application myself not long ago, so the tests, the personal statement and the interviews are all still fresh in my mind.
I started tutoring almost immediately after my GCSEs ended, after a lot of pushing from friends I'd helped along the way, and five years and 100+ students later I'm still doing it for the same reason I started. I had teachers who helped me realise my own potential, and I'd like to pass that on. Alongside private tuition I've worked with local schools, which has given me a good sense of how the same material gets taught across very different classrooms.
The thing I hear most often is that a student never expected to enjoy a subject until someone explained it to them in a way that finally clicked. That's truly my favourite part of this, and it tends to show in the results: this year five of my GCSE students went from a grade 4 or 5 up to an 8 or above, every GCSE student I taught finished on at least an 8, and every A-Level student came away with at least an A, whatever their starting point. Because I sat these papers relatively recently, I can tell you where a topic is actually difficult rather than where the textbook makes it look convoluted, what the examiners are really after whatever exam board you're on, and what I did myself when something just wouldn't go in.
I try to be as relatable as I can with my students: I'll share what I found hard in the exact topics you're studying now. If you're thinking about a lesson, I want you to know I've been where you are and felt the same way about it, and that whatever you need, we'll start from there, at your pace.

Who I teach: students from Year 7 to Year 13, plus gap-year and reapplying students. Enhanced DBS checked.
Subjects: Maths and Science at KS3 and GCSE; Maths, Biology and Chemistry at A-Level.
Admissions: Oxbridge, Imperial, and other competitive course applications, including ESAT and UCAT preparation, personal statements, and interview practice.
Lessons: 60 to 120 minutes, depending on age and what we're covering.
Here's what I can promise you:
For admissions, I'll take you through the whole process rather than one piece of it: choosing a course and college that truly suit you, the personal statement, the written tests, and mock interviews run the way the real ones are.
Everything I bring is tailored to your exam board's specification, so we spend our time on what your exam will actually ask of you, and you come away solid on the fundamentals.
My teaching style is interactive, but not in the sense of being put on the spot. It's much more a discussion about what we're learning than me firing questions at you, and most students find they hold onto far more that way. Learning shouldn't feel like a chore, and you should leave a lesson with less weighing on you and more interest in the subject than you came in with.
I've worked with a number of neurodivergent students, including students with autism and ADHD, and I'm comfortable adapting how a lesson runs: pacing, how much we cover at once, how material is presented, and how breaks are built in. If there's something that helps you learn, or something that gets in the way, tell me and we'll work around it.
You'll get my own resources free: the notes, question sets and memorisation tricks I actually used, aimed at the parts of a syllabus that are tedious to slog through on your own. You'll also get a customised study plan, built around your goals and current level to get you from where you are to where you hope to end up.
I teach all my lessons on an interactive whiteboard so you can focus on learning the content rather than taking notes, and everything we work through together is saved for you to revisit. After each lesson I send a summary document, a transcript and the link to the board, along with an optional bit of extra practice to keep you going through the week, and it's all logged in your study planner. Transcripts are kept partly for safeguarding and partly so you have a record to go back to; they're stored privately, shared only with the student and whoever booked the lesson, and held for the duration of tuition plus 12 months. Do ask me for help with homework or specific questions between lessons too — I'm here for the full journey, not just the scheduled slots.
Parents and guardians: if you're booking on behalf of a student, you'll have access to all the same summaries, notes and planner that they do, so everyone stays on the same page and expectations and goals are clear! It helps my younger students stay diligent, and gives the older ones someone at home to talk to who already knows which stage of revision they're on.
No problem is too small to bring to me! These exams are built to test whether you understand the material rather than whether you can recite it, so understanding is where I'll always invest the bulk of our time. If there's something you've never quite understood and gave up asking about, that's usually the best place for us to start.

I highly recommend Tanbeer as a tutor - he quickly identifies which areas you struggle with and immediately resolves any gaps in understanding before moving onto more advanced areas or starting to work on exam technique. He’s truly knowledgeable and answers any questions you may have, as well as offering his own valuable experiences and perspective to communicate complex concepts and large volumes of content effectively, providing study tips along the way.

Rates: £40 per hour for KS3, GCSE and A-Level tuition. £65 per hour for admissions support.
Free 30-minute consultation before you commit to anything.
5-hour pack: £10 off the total.
10-hour pack: the 10th lesson free.
The 10-hour pack is the one I'd point most students towards, and not only because it works out cheaper. Ten hours is roughly a term of weekly lessons for anyone up to Year 9, and somewhere between a half term and a full term at GCSE or A-Level depending on how we use it — a 60-minute lesson a week stretches it out, two hours takes you through a half term, and some of my A-Level students run three hours a week in the run-up to exams. That's the kind of stretch where a grade actually moves, rather than a handful of sessions that patch one topic and stop. We can work out the right rhythm in the free consultation, and it doesn't have to stay fixed: plenty of students start at an hour a week and step up as mocks approach.
