About Ellen
I am an experienced middle school and high teacher, and have taught lower levels of science at the community college.
I have a bachelor's degree in biology, a bachelor's degree in chemistry, and have four years of graduate school in Analytical Chemistry with two published papers. I have a master's degree in Technical Communication, and can help you write science reports and nonfiction papers.
I am a registered medical technologist, and worked for three years in hospital labs, experience I can tie into biology and human anatomy and physiology.
I am a traditionally trained science teacher, with 24 years experience in the classroom.
I am good at explaining things, and am credited as doing very well with high performing students as well as modifying for special needs students.
As I was often the only science teacher in small schools, I have taught all the subjects, or enough of each subject to handle ones I haven't taught. I know what the science student needs to know at each level, so I know how to prepare you for moving up to the next course.

I start by asking you what you know to get a starting point. We will define basic terms and build from there. I will meet you at your level, and take you to where you need to be--perhaps in multiple sessions, but we will get there. I can teach you how to study, how to assess your test readiness, and show you a fail-proof problem solving strategy. I can demonstrate the significance of what you're studying by connecting it to the real world, and other aspects of science. We will practice what you are learning until you are solid. I will reiterate important points multiple times until you see a roadmap to the concept. I will help you face your anxieties and break things down for you, step-by-step.
