About Alex

Hi, I’m Alex, a CELTA-qualified English teacher with professional experience at leading London language schools including International House and Speak Up London.

I’ve worked with students from a wide range of countries and backgrounds, helping them improve their English for exams, professional communication, and everyday life. Over time, I’ve developed a strong track record of helping students build confidence, improve fluency, and achieve their goals.

My teaching combines structured, high-quality lesson planning with a relaxed and engaging style. I focus not only on accuracy, but on helping you communicate clearly and naturally in real situations.

Alongside teaching, I have a background in acting (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), which allows me to help students develop confidence, presence, and natural speaking skills — something many learners struggle with at higher levels.

I speak French and Spanish fluently, so I understand the challenges of learning a language and can explain things clearly and efficiently.

My lessons are fully personalised and designed around your specific goals, level, and learning style.

In our first lesson, I will assess your level, identify key areas to improve, and create a clear plan to help you progress quickly and effectively.

Lessons typically focus on:

- Speaking and fluency (building confidence and natural communication)
- Grammar and vocabulary (with clear explanations and practical use)
- Listening and real-world English
- Exam techniques (IELTS, FCE, CAE) where relevant
- Professional communication for work (meetings, presentations, interviews)

I design each lesson to be structured, engaging, and results-focused. You will always know what you are working on and why.

I place a strong emphasis on speaking and active use of English, so you can see real improvement, not just passive understanding.

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak fluently because I'm British, originally from London.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

Considering I teach British English, I would say Judi Dench for me is representative of British Culture.
She's spent most of her career acting in different Shakespeare plays (can't really get more English than that). You should check out an interview with her, she's super soothing to listen to. Otherwise, I would say Sherlock Holmes, he's the typical Englishman, awkward and loves tea!
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

I use this idiom all the time when I can't find something in my house:

    "It's vanished into thin air!"

    I love it!
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

It means I can communicate with so many different people around the world and gives me so many opportunities.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

Unlike Spanish and other languages, you can't just pronounce what you see. The English Language has many silent letters, here are some examples:

    -talk (L is silent)
    -column (N is silent)
    -castle (T is silent)
I would say the best way to practice this is with a teacher who corrects your pronunciation and makes you repeat, repeat, repeat!
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

When I was at school, I had an amazing Spanish teacher who made us listen to Spanish songs and we had to fill in the lyrics. She also got us doing improvisations and the classes were always super fun and dynamic. She's definitely inspired me to bring joy and fun to my lessons with my students.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

I spent a year living in Latin America and this has given me a whole new perspective. I now understand how it feels to want to learn a language and communicate with the people who live in that country. It makes me a much more empathetic teacher.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

-I've taught at the best language schools in the world (International House London, Speak Up London, Mayfair School of English)
-I've taught for more than 5 years
-I'm a certified teacher from the University of Cambridge (CELTA)
-I've got brilliant reviews and feedback from all my students
    -I LOVE teaching
-I understand what it's like to learn a new language
-I make sure you achieve your goals, whatever that might be (exam, interview, travelling, hobby) in the timeframe you need.
-I speak Spanish and French fluently
