About David
Hello, I'm David! I'm a Sustainability Consultant with a background in Chemical Engineering (MEng) and six years of tutoring experience, including voluntary work with Action Tutoring, a charity supporting disadvantaged students – an experience that has developed my ability to teach students of varying levels and learning styles effectively. Breaking down complex ideas and making them genuinely accessible is something I do in my professional life every day, and it's something I find just as rewarding in a tutoring setting. My aim is to make difficult concepts feel manageable and give students the tools to become independent, confident learners over time.

My lessons are available online and in person for students in Brighton and Hove, covering Chemistry and Maths across a range of abilities through to GCSE level. Sessions typically run for one hour, though this can be adapted to suit exam timelines or individual needs.
I begin by getting to know you, understanding your current level, identifying strengths and gaps, and discussing your goals, expectations and learning styles. From there, we build a clear, focused learning plan together: which topics to cover, in what order, and over what timeframe.
I focus on a first-principles method, ensuring you don’t just memorise information but truly understand the underlying concepts. This builds long-term confidence and the ability to tackle unfamiliar exam questions.
Lessons are active, not passive. I use an interactive whiteboard throughout, where you’ll engage with the subject matter and apply concepts as we go. We then move into exam practice together to familiarise you with question patterns and what examiners are looking for. I also set light, focused homework where appropriate to reinforce learning between sessions.
Progress is reviewed regularly and honestly. You'll always know where things stand and what we're working towards. Whether you’re building core foundations, improving grades, or aiming for top performance, I’m always happy to discuss first to make sure we’re a good fit before you commit to anything.
