About Fiona

My passion for chemistry began with curiosity about the world at a molecular level. I pursued a Bachelor’s in Chemistry, gaining a strong foundation in chemical principles and laboratory techniques. Over 9 years, I have guided students from different backgrounds to understand chemistry conceptually and practically, helping them feel confident and capable in the subject.

I believe chemistry should be taught through structured explanation and hands-on application. My approach focuses on breaking down reactions, mechanisms, and laboratory concepts into smaller, digestible steps. I integrate real-life examples to show how chemistry impacts everyday life, industry, and scientific research. I encourage questions, practice, and repeated exploration, which strengthens understanding and confidence in learners.

Beyond teaching, I continue to explore new areas of chemistry through reading, experiments, and research discussions. This keeps my lessons fresh, relevant, and engaging. Teaching chemistry is deeply rewarding because I witness students move from uncertainty to clarity, developing analytical skills, confidence, and a genuine curiosity about the molecular world around them. Helping learners build strong foundations and apply chemistry creatively is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my work.

Chemistry becomes much more approachable when students can see how reactions occur in real life rather than just memorising equations. In my lessons, I focus on acid-base reactions, organic synthesis, stoichiometry, and molecular interactions using simple and clear explanations. Each concept is broken down step by step, with practical examples and analogies to make learning intuitive. I emphasise connecting theory with experiments, so students understand not just what happens in chemical reactions, but why it happens. Every session is structured to be supportive and encouraging, helping learners gain confidence and reduce anxiety about complex topics.

Lessons are tailored to student levels. Beginners focus on understanding basic reactions, molecular structures, and simple calculations. Intermediate students work on reaction mechanisms, functional groups, and analytical problem-solving. Advanced learners explore kinetics, equilibrium, spectroscopy, and real-world applications in pharmaceuticals, materials, or environmental chemistry. I provide guided exercises, practice problems, and feedback to ensure comprehension and steady growth. This approach helps learners develop strong conceptual understanding and practical skills simultaneously.

Learning chemistry also nurtures critical thinking and analytical abilities. Students gain precision, logical reasoning, and a systematic approach to solving problems. They become more confident in laboratory work, exams, and theoretical applications. My goal is to make chemistry exciting, relevant, and comprehensible, so learners feel capable of tackling challenging problems and applying knowledge creatively in academic or professional environments.
