About Diya

Hi, I'm Diya! I'm a third-year Chemistry student at the University of Edinburgh, having achieved A*A*A at A-level.
I decided to start tutoring because I know how much of a difference the right support can make. Having sat GCSEs and A-levels myself relatively recently, I understand exactly what examiners are looking for and where students commonly lose marks, and I use this to help my students approach their exams strategically as well as academically.
I love working with young people, and after graduating I'm hoping to become a teacher — so tutoring is not just a job for me, but something I'm genuinely passionate about and want to build a career around.
Outside of my studies, I play football for my university team, which has taught me a lot about discipline, teamwork, and staying motivated even when things get tough — qualities I try to bring into my tutoring too. I also genuinely enjoy science outside of the classroom, and love finding ways to connect what students are learning to the real world, which I think makes lessons more memorable and engaging.
I take tutoring seriously and prepare thoroughly for every lesson, tailoring materials to each student's exam board and specific needs.

About the lesson

My approach: Each lesson is adapted to the individual student — their level, learning style, and the areas they find most challenging. I focus on building genuine understanding rather than rote memorisation, breaking topics into manageable chunks and using clear, real-world examples to make ideas click. I create a warm, patient environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, which I think is key to actually building confidence rather than just getting through content.

Lesson length: Lessons typically run for 1 hour, though this can be adjusted depending on the student's needs and how they're finding the pace.

Qualifications/experience: Alongside my Chemistry degree, I completed a month-long teaching internship at a school in London, where I worked with students of a wide range of abilities and spent a significant amount of time delivering one-on-one support. This gave me hands-on experience adapting my explanations to different students and identifying exactly where each one needed the most help.

Who this is for: I work with GCSE students across Maths, Biology and Physics, and with GCSE/A-level students in Chemistry. This includes students looking to consolidate their understanding, those who've fallen behind and need to catch up, and those aiming for top grades who want extra stretch and challenge.
