About Alvin

I have been tutoring mathematics since 2015 years now, both privately and for tutoring companies part-time.

I am now a full-time Software Engineer, but still enjoy teaching and mentoring when I have the time.

I have many young students that started to excel in mathematics at school, and several students that have acheived a study score of 40+ in Further Mathematics and Mathematical Methods. I have also helped a few students pass the mathematics units required in most Computer Science and IT undergraduate degrees.

Group lessons are held in my own home, and I am happy to travel to your home or the local library for solo lessons. I am also happy to do lessons online.

About the lesson

Group lessons focus on the school curriculum, solo lessons depend on the individual, but both serve to accelerate the student's learning and go extend and challenge them a bit.

I am open to dedicating time to focus on difficulties on certain topics the student may be facing. I usually use my own notes, but on parents request I don't mind purchasing the textbook assigned by their school and using it.

I am able to help students with:
Year 3 to VCE mathematics
Foundation Mathematics
General Mathematics
Further Mathematics
Mathematical Methods
Specialist Mathematics
Discrete & Continuous Mathematics for Computer Science

Group lessons are on weekends, 1-on-1 lessons are arranged beforehand

My teaching philosophy to make sure a student understands a topic well enough to be able to link it with other areas of maths, and ideally be at a level to teach their peers.

With his help I managed to get distinctions in FIT1047 introduction to computers, networks, and security, as well as MAT1830 discrete mathematics for computer science.
Every lesson I learnt something new and felt that he was very thorough and organised with his plans. He ensured that I understood something and regularly tested me to check.
Alvin was extremely patient and was able to answer all of my questions as fast as he could. I would send a question at 2am while I was stuck on something sometimes and I'd still get answer within 30 minutes.
