About Mackenzie
I am a recent graduate from Pacific Lutheran University with two degrees in biology and environmental studies. I graduated with a 3.8 and honors in both degrees. I have worked for both the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife in their marine mammal division and a local non-profit called Harbor WildWatch. Both of these experiences have put me in close interaction with the public and students of all grade levels. I am practiced in communicating complex scientific topics in an interactive, fun, and easy to understand way.

Like many people I am a highly visual and hands-on learner. Therefore, my teaching approach involves a lot of visual representations, demonstrations and hands on activities. Ultimately, most of my teaching has taken place outside in the field on beaches and shores where I can show students the organisms and processes I am taking about. This would be my optimal approach to teaching; allowing students to experience the joys and benefits of outdoor learning alongside interactive demonstrations and learning that happens inside. During COVID-19 for in person sessions I would prefer an outdoor teaching setting as well as the use of masks in situations where students or parents are within six feet.
