About Bridget
My name is Bridget and I am a third-year student in a Biology BA program at Boston University. I have been passionate about human biology my whole life, and my intention after college is to pursue further education in optometry or pharmacy. My mother is an emergency room physician and my father was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years, so I am passionate about science education. I intend to share some of that passion with others on here.
Some of my interests: reading, writing stories, listening to music, singing recreationally (I am an alto in the BU symphonic chorus), and watching sports (my favorite teams are the Montreal Canadiens, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Boston University Terriers)

Hi there! I’m Bridget and I am from Allentown, Pennsylvania. I am currently in my third year of a Bachelor of Arts degree at Boston University, majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry. I am a college student looking for something interesting to do on my weekends when I don’t have much homework. I tutored peers in high school, and my father taught elementary school in inner-city Allentown for 30+ years, so I understand the value of someone who patiently helps students understand subjects in detail without discriminating, and I think it would be fun to be that person.
As someone studying STEM, I know how intimidating the sciences can seem to a student. I hope that my lessons will ease stress for young students in grades 4-8 and perhaps even help them find a passion for the sciences, specifically human biology and anatomy.
AVAILABILITY: I am a student myself, so I want to save my weekdays for homework, extracurriculars, and studying. I plan to hold my lessons over Zoom on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. My availability will vary depending on the week, but generally, I will be available Fridays 3:30-9:30 PM, Saturdays 12:30-4:30 PM and 7:30-9:30 PM, and Sundays 12:30-9:30 PM. If I have an event on one of these days that conflicts with a lesson, I will explain why and try my best to reschedule (I’m usually free on Sundays, so if I have something on Friday or Saturday night, it would probably be rescheduled for Sunday).
RATE: The first lesson for each student is free, so I can get to know you and you can explain your syllabus and what you need help with. After that, lessons will be $15/hour. The lessons don’t have to be exactly an hour, they can be shorter or longer, but I would try to aim for at least 30 minutes/no more than 90 minutes.
LESSON PLAN: I plan to do lessons after the first one in a structured way, but I don’t mind veering from this if you need more help with something specific.
- First 5-10 minutes: warm up (tell me something you learned at school this week or in our last lesson! I love to hear about what other people have learned. Maybe I will try to explain something I learned in my classes in a way that is understandable to a 9-14 year old)
- 10-20 minutes: visual learning (I will use well-made online diagrams or make my own that explain a concept. For example, if I have to explain the organelles of a cell, I will use a diagram using the popular city analogy)
- 10-20 minutes: practice (based on your goals that you explained to me in our last lesson, I will provide a quiz game or a blank diagram and work with you to label it correctly)
- Last 5-10 minutes: wrap up (try to explain what you learned back to me. Then, explain to me what you may need help with next lesson, and we can work out a preliminary lesson plan for next lesson)
