About Raka
I am a current medical student hoping to specialise in oncology. In the past I have obtained another two degrees in Biomedical science and a Master's specialising in cancer. I then obtained my PGCE from a world leading programme before working as a secondary and sixth form science teacher in London.
I have a passion for teaching and learning and even at medical school I have worked with my university and schools in the area to encourage more students to apply to medicine and provided them with guidance on this process. Whilst I was working as a teacher I also organised a medics club to also guide students who are hoping to apply for medical school.

I am a current medical student hoping to specialise in oncology. In the past I have obtained another two degrees in Biomedical science and a Master's specialising in cancer. I then obtained my PGCE from a world leading programme before working as a secondary and sixth form science teacher in London.
As I have worked as a teacher in the past I have gained the relevant experience to know how a student learns best and what techniques are not as useful. The approach I now use as a tutor heavily mirrors this so that I can ensure my tutees reach their full potential.
My techniques include ensuring that my students understand a concept rather than just memorising, aiding in active recall which has been proven to be the best learning technique. For my KS3 and more so my GCSE and A-level students, I like to dedicate a good amount of time of the lesson to perfecting exam technique so that my students can achieve the highest grade possible. I also like to set extra work in between lessons which we can revisit together at the start of the next lesson to ensure there is consistency within what my students are learning and to ensure my tutee gets the most out of their time with me.
The typical length of my lessons are 1 hour but I have taught for longer if this is what the student prefers. I have tutored for the past 6 years and in this time I have taught science and maths to a variety of ages ranging from 8-18. I also have experience teaching different exam boards which is very important to consider when it comes to teaching GCSE and A- level.
