Statement of Teaching Philosophy
I acquired my terminal degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering- Salford University.
I started teaching in September 1986 topics I covered(practical in the Laboratories) Dept of Materials science and Metallurgy, In September 1988 the topics covered in the laboratory teaching were in the Department of Electronics and electrical Engineering and computer sciences. By 1992 I was teaching at the University of Derby: Topics were Environmental physics, (inc general physics) Electronics, Instrumentation and Lighting, this was both theoretical and Laboratory work. I admit that teaching such topics with students who had minimal or none existent scientific backgrounds was a difficult experience to me at first due to the varying academic backgrounds and understanding of the students but I learned a lot and developed an understanding of how to balance the courses and practical tutorial and group work exercises to manage the students’ difficulties. That gave me the experience of understand my students difficulties in handling scientific data and utilizing this data into papers.
At postgraduate level I supervised many projects from 1994 when I taught overseas in Libya the subjects of Physics, Technical English and Electronic Engineering, both theoretical and practical applications in a laboratory that I had to build from scratch utilizing old equipment (some from the 70’s) Teaching technical English proved to be a challenge as many of the students had not learnt the basics of English language but helped me to develop skills Investigating these research and development problems help in enhanced my teaching and learning drilling and practices skills.

When the contract was completed I undertook teaching at the technical Studies Institute in the United Arab Emirates (UAE Army) where I taught Electronics, at this stage I also built a Laboratory and supervised many projects which yearly students had to enter /show and discuss technically their projects at the International exhibition in Abu Dhabi (IDEX).. Again, this helped in developing my teaching skills in handling multiethnic teaching classes of students from differing countries. Since 2008 I have built a nanotechnology Laboratory at British Institute for Technology and E Commerce where I teach postgraduate students in the topics of Nanosciences/Nanotechnology, which includes related techniques from Chemistry, Optoelectronics and Electrical Engineering to characterize the basic properties of the materials.
The experience could be summarized in the following:
1. Understanding the cultural background of students will help in developing a comfortable learning and teaching environment.
2. Breaking the ice in class room will help the students interact in class room comfortably
3. Developing group exercises will help the students interact with each other and as a result they comprehend the basic concepts of the topic.
4. Elected senior students could help in partial evaluation of presentation
5. Mock presentation, submission and examination will help in enhance the performance of the students.
6. Couching research method and dissertation development will enhance the students’ performance in developing good research papers and high quality dissertations structure.
7. Exam database is very useful in preparing the students to final examination and reduces the level of students’ worries about their performance in final examination.
8. In the UK universities environment the role of external examiner is important, giving the students feedback about what the external examiner expect to see in their examination papers, course works and dissertations will contribute in enhancing performance of the students.
9. Encourage students to participate in conferences and seminars will enhance their confidence and presentation skills.
10. Consultation, research and development will help in developing sound, viable and practical research proposals for students’ projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

At the end it is important to say that working in more the educational environments will contribute in enhance teaching vast and wide areas of expertise as teaching the subjects theoretically it is important that laboratory work enhances the teaching program in order for the students to fully understand, coupled with seminars, dissertations and mock exams enables the student to gain confidence in his studies.
