About Onkar

Parents feel confident in my abilities because I work with young learners every day, and find ways to bring out the best in them often. I have experience in early childhood education, with the running of a nursery and KG school. I am therefore used to all kinds of personalities, speeds of learning, levels of engagement. I keep sessions planned out, calm and the children feel supported to make mistakes and learn at their own pace. My approach is very simple - I give clear explanations, strive for slow progress and have a teaching style that keeps them engaged from introduction to summary. I can promise professionalism, reliable communication, and an authentic intervention to harness their confidence in maths.

About the lesson

My primary objective is to develop a solid base in maths by teaching concepts simply, clearly and with a practical application. I keep things fairly straightforward: get to know the child first, break topics down into small steps, relate concepts to examples they are comfortable with, and keep them interacting with the session. I often use short exercises, real-life problem solving and quick check-ins in the lesson, ensuring the child has true understanding of the topic rather than simply recalling it. A session typically runs for around 45 -60 minutes, although this varies with each child's attention capacity, etc. Younger learners seem to respond better with shorter sessions that are high energy, whereas older primary learners seem to manage longer sessions better. After every lesson, I will send a short summary of what we worked on in class, as well as what the child needs to work on or revise. My experience is valuable for online tutoring, as I have run and taught in a nursery/KG school where I teach early learners every day. I understand how to teach to differing learning speeds, how to make lessons engaging and enjoyable, and how to get children to focus without the pressure. I have had a lot of success with young learners when building their foundational maths, reading skills and behaviours, which also easily translates to effective online teaching. These sessions are appropriate for children aged 6 to 10 who want help with the key ideas of primary maths, including number sense, arithmetic, word problems, and confidence building. I am able to support children one-on-one and at their own pace, whether they are struggling, wanting extra practice, or wanting to stay ahead.
