About Gareth
I have a genuine passion for economics and for deepening people’s understanding of how it works in practice. Over many years working as a professional economist, I have developed a strong interest in not just analysing economic issues myself, but also in helping others make sense of them in a clear and accessible way.
I enjoy breaking down complex ideas into something that is easy to understand, and linking theory to real-world events so that students can see why economics matters. Whether it is inflation, interest rates, or everyday decisions made by firms and consumers, I aim to show how the subject connects to the world around us.
Tutoring gives me the opportunity to share that interest and help students build both confidence and curiosity in economics, alongside the skills they need to succeed in their exams.

I am a professional economist with 25 years of experience working in the field, and I offer economics tutoring for both GCSE and A-level students. My focus is on helping students develop a clear understanding of core economic concepts while also building the skills needed to succeed in exams.
Lessons are tailored to the relevant exam board, so the teaching is closely aligned with the specific content and assessment objectives for GCSE and A-level specifications. At GCSE level this includes building a strong foundation in microeconomics and macroeconomics, while at A-level we go into more depth and develop stronger analytical and evaluative skills.
In microeconomics, particular emphasis is placed on key concepts such as demand and supply, market structures, and elasticity, including price elasticity of demand (PED) and how it is applied in real-world contexts. In macroeconomics, we cover key topics such as inflation, unemployment, economic growth, and monetary and fiscal policy, again using real-world examples to show how these ideas operate in practice and how they are applied in exam answers.
A key feature of the tutoring is the use of real-world economic examples throughout. Issues such as inflation, interest rates, global trade, and business pricing decisions are regularly used to illustrate theory and develop stronger evaluation in essays and data response questions.
The overall aim is to provide clear, structured teaching that is tailored to the student’s needs and exam board, while also bringing economics to life through relevant real-world application.
