About Selina
With over seven years of experience in K-6 special education, I specialize in supporting students with learning disabilities, autism, emotional disturbances, and intellectual disabilities. I've co-taught reading, writing, and math in 6th-grade classrooms, working closely with teachers to implement effective accommodations. I also serve on the SWPBIS and math MTSS committees, helping to create schoolwide behavioral and academic supports. My teaching methodology blends traditional methods with strategies like bar modeling and conceptual understanding to support both concrete and abstract learning. During direct instruction, I model concepts and apply bar modeling to visualize complex math problems, emphasizing their connection to abstract formulas. Independent practice follows, where students work autonomously, with monitoring and intervention as needed. Finally, I close with a review, encourage questions, and provide positive reinforcement, ensuring students feel confident in their progress. Formative assessments help inform future lessons and support continued growth.
