About Natasha

I am a fully qualified E.S.L teacher with a bachelor in business (property). I have been teaching E.S.L English for over 20 years in Melbourne, Beijing and Kobe, Japan. I taught general and academic English at Swinburne for 5 years, and I currently work at Monash College. Private tuition is available for students who need a specific I.E.L.T.S score, or who want to practice role play for the O.E.T speaking test. I have helped so many students achieve scores, grades and levels they aim for. I provide expert tuition in speaking and focus on correct pronunciation and intonation. I offer many tips and give personalised guidance. My students have flourished in English bridging courses and go on to study diplomas, degrees and masters.
I tailor speaking lessons according to learners needs. I look at strengths and weaknesses and give honest feedback. Private lessons are desirable for students who need to focus on improving speaking. Oral English is extremely important for effective communication. I have taught all ages - young and old - children, teenagers, people in their 20s and 30s, and people in their golden years who are over 60. I have taught very small groups in Japan, medium sized groups in Australia and very big classes in China. I look forward to helping you achieve your goal to speak English well.

About the lesson

My teaching method for improving English speaking skills requires you to talk a lot. I specialise in academic English, however, I can prepare students for the general or academic IELTS speaking test. If you have a presentation you need to do via zoom or face to face with your teacher and class I will help you achieve an excellent result. I will help you with natural sounding English with correct pronunciation, intonation and hesitation - well timed pauses. If you need to practice oral presentations bring your work to my class or I will set a task, you research it and present it to me. I will give you what is known as constructive criticism, as we learn by mistakes. It is otherwise known as feedback. I will help you correct your mistakes and not rely on notes when presenting. If you are in a group we will practise role play and I will give you interesting scenarios and subjects to discuss. You can also choose what you want to talk about. I will help you to be confident and clear in your speech. I will help you to eliminate negativity and overcome shyness when speaking a second language. My methods involve a lot of role play, discussion of IELTS topics, mini presentations on world issues and I will ask you to keep a glossary of new words and a pronunciation log of words to practice. We can also use devices and practice speaking on face time or zoom. You will learn English sounds, word stress, sentence stress and intonation and I will suggest apps to get you talking! Pronunciation is an important skill for students if they want to be understood in English speaking countries. I will help you ‘re-tune’ your ears so you become sensitive to sounds and other features of English that don’t exist in your mother tongue pronunciation. We will revise and review what you learn in class. You will learn to speak English well.
